THE SPIRIT, SOUL, AND THE BODY

The word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates Even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Heb 4:12 NIV). The fact that the word of God divides the soul and the spirit means that they must be two different things. God sees us as spirit beings first who have souls and live in bodies. There are four New Testament Greek words which help us understand these three spheres of our humanness. They are pneuma, psyche, soma and sarks.
