This book presents vignettes of Judaism and Jewish-Christian (particularly Catholic) relations throughout the centuries. The book is divided into seven parts each with three chapters covering aspects of Judaism since the fall of the temple. It begins with an introduction to Judaism and the Talmud, depicts three outstanding figures of medieval Jewish Europe and the conflictual relations between Christians and Jews in the Middle Ages and Reformation, before moving to the challenge of modernity, the sadness of the twentieth century and then the dramatic change inaugurated by the Second Vatican Council. The book concludes, appropriately, with a Jewish theologian’s description of the Sabbath rest.
